Asia-Pacific-based airlines led the industry recovery last year mainly driven by growth in the airfreight segment. This growth has helped airlines move back into the black and, for some, a sharp surge in the net profit for last year's financials.
The carriers' outlook for this year also remains broadly positive, given expectations of sustained demand in growth in trade and signs of economic improvements in major markets such as the United States, according to most analysts. However, there is a danger that continued unrest in the Middle East will lead to higher crude oil prices, which could threaten that scenario.
The upcoming Air Freight Asia 2011 will focus on the recovering Asia-Pacific markets, especially the mainland.
The event will also look at the industry's forecast and many other topics focusing on Asia-Pacific, particularly the mainland - the fastest-growing global economy, estimated by its central bank to have recorded a 10 per cent GDP growth last year.
Leading veteran industry experts will converge at Air Freight Asia - the region's foremost conference and exhibition for air cargo and supply chain executives.
'Air Freight Asia 2011 offers delegates a unique combination of exhibition, conferences and networking opportunities - the first of its kind - all under one roof,' says Brian Thomas, vice-president aerospace and aviation at Reed Exhibitions, organiser of Air Freight Asia at AsiaWorld-Expo, from Tuesday to Thursday next week.
This year's main conference, 'The Golden Dragon: China's air cargo market continues to shine', will be complimented for the first time by a dedicated aviation and aerospace supply chain summit.
The organiser say that the events are attracting global and local leaders in air freight, logistics and freight forwarding.
An additional summit is being organised in co-operation with the Global Supply Chain Council, an influential industry body representing 60,000 logistics professionals, according to Reed Exhibitions.
Commenting on Air Freight Asia, Hong Kong Shippers' Council executive director Sunny Ho says that the supply chain summit will enhance next week's event. 'Shippers will be interested in new solutions, new technologies and new applications that the logistics and air freight industry can provide,' he says.
'Air Freight Asia, including the conference and exhibition, provides an opportunity for shippers, especially big shippers, to come into contact with the service providers and operators.'
China Logistics Club/Africa Logistics Club chairman Henrik Christensen says that the event will, for the first time, offer an opportunity for small and medium-sized freight forwarders to have smaller booths, and also participate in Cargo Networking One-2-One meetings with potential partners.
Delegates to Air Freight Asia will have the opportunity to visit the world's leading international air cargo terminal operator Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals, Asia Airfreight Terminal and DHL's Central Asia Hub, all situated at Hong Kong International Airport.
