The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber

The songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber are by now recognisable to millions around the world - and many more people will be unknowingly familiar with his relentlessly catchy tunes.

Responsible for decades of West End musicals including Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Starlight Express and Evita, Lloyd Webber is an institution of the theatre. He was knighted in 1992 and raised to the peerage in 1997, so he may now be addressed as the Right Honourable Lord Lloyd-Webber.

But the wait to see each of his shows arrive in Hong Kong theatres would be a long one, which is precisely why fans of cheery musicals are in luck. The Music Of Andrew Lloyd Webber aims to bring out the best of the composer's ditties, all to be enjoyed in one evening. That's convenience, Hong Kong style.

Lloyd Webber's shows have had some difficulty crossing the Atlantic, with Broadway roundly rejecting Song and Dance, Starlight Express and The Woman in White: each lost money during its short-lived US run.

However, the greatest-hits show is unlikely to be such a flop.

With more than 40 years of melodies to cherry-pick from, there should be plenty to suit every ear at the Academy for Performing Arts from June 8-19.

Tickets from HK$330 to HK$950 are available through HK Ticketing.
