BRITISH Minister in charge of Hong Kong affairs Alastair Goodlad will brief Governor Chris Patten and his top aides on his maiden trip to China after a six-day visit ends on July 20, sources said yesterday.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that Mr Goodlad would visit China from next Thursday as host of Vice-Foreign Minister Jiang Enzhu. He would visit Shanghai and Guangzhou before arriving in Hong Kong on July 20.
Mr Goodlad will meet Mr Patten, Executive Councillors and Legislative Councillors during his stop-over.
British officials said Mr Goodlad had nothing to negotiate with China but would discuss ways to boost co-operation on Hong Kong issues.
Talks would also include regional and global affairs, such as the crisis in North Korea.
