Sacked workers seeking payout

TEN sacked staff from the Jumbo Floating Restaurant in Aberdeen yesterday demanded $200,000 compensation they claim was owed by the company.

The staff included former chefs and technicians.

About 60 staff were sacked this year and 10 approached the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions' labour services division, which has called on other laid-off workers to come forward.

Chief executive of the federation, Ip Wai-ming, said they would seek help from the Labour Department to push for reasonable compensation and would meet restaurant management on November 17.

A spokesman for the Jumbo Floating Restaurant said management was not available for comment.
