Homeless problem at park

I WOULD like to point out a long-standing problem in the recreational park located in Battery Street, Yau Ma Tei, which is currently managed and maintained by the Urban Council.

The park is frequented by homeless people, some of whom are drug addicts.

Some have lived there for a long time. What was once a very nice shelter area is now stuffed with cardboard boxes, newspapers and cooking utensils. Beds and pillows have been scattered on the playground, and benches are covered with dirty clothes.

These people feed stray dogs which then hang around the park.

We know nothing about these homeless people, whether they are mentally disturbed, and fear we may be at risk. People dare not use the facilities.

The park does not seem to be making any inspections of the park. It is a waste of taxpayers' money constructing these recreational facilities if they cannot be used for that purpose.

Other parks I have seen in Tsim Sha Tsui are maintained, so why not this one? It would be nice to see the smiling faces of children in the Battery Street park again instead of these homeless people.
