Anniversary celebrations highlight Einstein's life

'Einstein in Hong Kong' is bringing more than 200 important objects and documents belonging to Nobel physics laureate Albert Einstein to the city for the first time.

The Hong Kong Science Museum and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) are co-hosting the 41/2-month-long exhibition from April 18 as part of a programme celebrating their joint 20th anniversary. There will also be lectures, concerts and workshops.

Einstein is famous for his theory of relativity, which changed the concepts of time and space early in the past century, but few know he visited Hong Kong twice.

HKUST president Tony Chan Fan-cheong says the physicist and his wife stopped over for a day in 1922, visiting the Peak and Repulse Bay.

The exhibition attracted 400,000 visitors in Beijing and Guangzhou last year on its tour commemorating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland.
