HKIEd hosts psychometric society's international meeting next month
The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) will host the 76th Annual and the 17th International Meeting of the Psychometric Society on 18-22 July in Tai Po. Topics include cognitive diagnosis modelling, mathematical psychology and multidimensional scaling. Among the speakers are Jimmy de la Torre of the State University of New Jersey and Thomas Rusch and Patrick Mair of the Vienna University of Economics and Business. AmCham talk focuses on capitalism
Chandran Nair, founder and CEO of the Global Institute for Tomorrow - an independent social venture think tank based in Asia - will be speaking at the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) office in Central on June 15 on 'Constraining Consumption: Asia's Role in Reshaping Capitalism'. His talk will take off from his book, Consumptionomics, which calls for a ban on some forms of consumption and repricing of resources. Members pay HK$150 while non-members pay HK$250. HKU sets up student tour of Shanxi
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) architecture department and Tianjin University will organise a tour to northern Shanxi province (below) to re-examine timber structures that were built before the 12th century and discovered by Chinese scholars in the 1930s. This summer 2011 programme, with the theme 'Tracing the Classics', is set for July 4-11, and will give students first-hand knowledge and insights about Chinese classical architecture.
