In the frame for specs without lenses

In his 33 years of eyewear design, Alain Miklitarian of brand Alain Mikli is a man who has seen it all. But even he was intrigued by how the local fashionistas came to party wearing glasses without lenses, just the frame.

'I've never thought about doing this myself; but it's fashionable, non?' Miklitarian said. 'I think people are wearing glasses here more as a fashion accessory.'

The designer was in town for the opening of a new store in Harbour City mall and made a personal appearance at the party on Thursday night at The Box restaurant and bar in Central.

Miklitarian, who has created glasses for characters in Hollywood productions such as Men in Black and Godzilla, got the city's hipsters to come out en masse in shades, glasses and, of course, just frames to his party.

TVB actress Charmaine Sheh Sze-man was hugged by Miklitarian. While they were posing for photos, the designer wrapped his arms around Sheh's waist and struck a tango pose with her. 'He didn't do anything [outrageous], he was just being very friendly. Well, he's French after all,' Sheh said.
