Quick guide - Singapore
Shopping
There is a wealth of choice, from the smart boutiques of Orchard Road to the geeks' paradise of computer mazes such as the Funan DigitalLife Mall.
Food
Singapore does food best, thanks to its inhabitants who were eating fusion cuisine long before anyone put a name to it. The menu ranges from ultra-cheap and cheerful in hawker centres, to cutting-edge designer fare in themed restaurants, and gourmet dining.
Nightlife
Boat Quay and Clarke Quay are good starting points for a pub crawl.
Fitness/Recreation
Singaporeans like to eat - and work off the calories. There are plenty of gyms and spas.
Local interest
Many people visit Singapore on business, but it also caters to leisure pursuits and makes a good jumping-off point to the Malaysian peninsula and Indonesian archipelago. Sentosa is the city's playground, complete with beaches, attractions and a connecting cable car.
Getting about
Singapore has a good network of buses, and the MRT.
