An impressive 3-0 victory against Shanghai put Hong Kong boys' volleyball team on course for a place in the semi-finals of the All China Secondary Schools Students' Games here in Inner Mongolia.
The boys knew that a win last Friday would be a huge boost for their medal hopes. They held their nerve and dominated the contest, winning 25-17, 25-17, 25-21.
Last Thursday, Hong Kong showed great fighting spirit to defeat Shanxi 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-11). Their success came after losing a close game to Jiangsu the previous day.
Wing spiker Chan Ka-wai was Hong Kong's hero against Shanxi. He had missed the defeat against Jiangsu with a stomach bug.
'I had stomach pains on Wednesday, but I am okay now,' he said.
Coach Ngai Chun-kuen was impressed by the team's display. He also praised Ka-wai's performance against Shanxi.
'Ka-wai was incredible,' he said. 'His all-round skills were excellent. He provided blocks, sets and digs; he was there whenever his teammates needed him.'Topics: Volleyball Shanxi Volleyball Kevin Kung Sports
