12 hurt as minibus hits Kwai Chung embankment

A minibus driver and 11 passengers were injured when the vehicle toppled over in Kwai Chung yesterday. The driver was changing lanes in Kwai Chung Road near Kwai Fong Terrace at 1pm when the vehicle hit an embankment, mowed down a road sign and fell on to its left side, police said. The 12 were treated for their injuries at Princess Margaret Hospital. Four passengers were unhurt.

Autopsy for Sai Kung park swimming victim

An autopsy is likely to be carried out on a 55-year-old man who died after he went swimming at 12.30pm at Long Ke Wan off Sai Kung Country Park. The man was on a boat trip with more than 30 friends. He was wearing a life jacket when he was found unconscious in the water, police said.

Alleged cosmetics thief fighting for her life

A woman is fighting for her life after falling down a stairwell at the Nan Fung Centre, Castle Peak Road, Tsuen Wan. The woman was injured as staff chased her after she allegedly stole two bottles of cream worth HK$250 from an 11th floor cosmetics shop. She is in critical condition in Princess Margaret Hospital. Police found two bottles of cream in her handbag.

HK$1.25m worth of dried goods stolen

Chinese caterpillar fungus, bird's nest and abalone worth HK$1.25 million were stolen from a dried-seafood shop in Tsim Sha Tsui. Police were called to the Hankow Road store at about 1.30am.

Bus firms agree to pay rise, bonus for staff

Staff of Citybus and New World First Bus will receive a pay rise and a special bonus this year. Drivers, technicians and clerical workers will get a 4 per cent rise in their salary. Permanent staff will get an HK$800 bonus and those on contracts HK$2,500.

Legco food safety panel members invited to Japan
