Singer G.E.M. stays young at heart on her 20th birthday

She may have turned 20 on Saturday, but spunky singer Gloria Tang Zhi-kei, aka G.E.M., proved to all that she was still a kid at heart by spending her birthday with youngsters half her age at the Next Generation Mini-DJ Contest at Cyberport.

Tang, radio DJ Michael Leung and radio show host Sara Lee Lai-yui put contenders aged three to 18 though gruelling tests to discover if they had what it took to rule the airwaves. Ten-year-old Lau Chun-yin beat out close to 100 other competitors in rounds of performance talent, speed-reading, and ad-libbing to become the winning mini-DJ. He now gets to share the mic with Leung as his guest host on Cyberport Station's radio show.

Tang received birthday blessings from young fans, and after performing some of her favourite songs, the singer waxed nostalgic about memorable birthdays. 'My 18th birthday meant a lot to me,' she said. 'That was the day I really felt like an adult - and really special.'
