The official days of summer may be coming to an end, but Hong Kong's killer temperatures linger on. For dog owners who want to cool off with their furry friends, two retreats offer much needed respite.
At Petworld (www.petworldhk.com ) dogs, from Yorkshire Terriers to Poodles, can revel in this slice of doggie heaven. Located in Yuen Long, it's a day-retreat and hotel, with two swimming pools- to separate big and small dogs- grass area, party room, barbecue pit, grooming facilities and kennel, plus shaded tables and chairs for owners to relax. The grass area is also split into two sections: 20,000 sqft for large dogs and 10,000 sqft for small ones.
If you don't have time to lounge by the pool with your dog, the retreat offers a day-care service with swimming. During your canine's visit, it will have at least 1 1/2 hours in the water with a dog sitter. And to show how much fun your pet had doing the doggie-paddle, owners will receive a VCD of the aqua-fitness session.
For owners who book an overnight stay for their furry friend, staff take photographs of the boarding dog every day and e-mail them to owners. To beat the heat, boarders rest in a 24-hour air conditioned system, divided into small and large dog sections.
Another dog-friendly option is Posh Paws (www.poshpaws.com.hk ), also in Yuen Long. This members-only club- HK$300 annual fee- gives you access to the pool and function space, with facilities including barbecue options and drinks supply. It also offers services including pick-up and drop-off, boarding, day-care and professional grooming.
Your dog must be four months old or above, with a microchip implant and must be vaccinated against distemper, parainfluenza, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvovirus and rabies.
