600 march against HK births for mainland mums

About 600 people marched to the old Central Government Offices in Central yesterday after a sit-in at Southorn Playground, Wan Chai, in protest against mainlanders being able to deliver babies in Hong Kong hospitals. They demanded that a Court of Final Appeal ruling in 2001 be amended so the children of non-Hongkongers born in the city were not entitled to the right of abode.

EOC chief to investigate gifted pupil's complaint

Equal Opportunities Commission chief Lam Woon-kwong would look into a complaint by a gifted 12-year-old Indian that the Education Bureau failed to provide enough help to find him a school, he said. He would meet bureau chief Michael Suen Ming-yeung this week. He said a mainstream school place should be allocated to the boy.

Four in hospital after two traffic accidents

A taxi driver and her passenger were injured when their cab overturned in Tai Kok Tsui after a collision with two vehicles at 8am. Two hours later, a minibus driver and a passer-by were hurt when a KMB bus and two minibuses collided in Tsz Wan Shan. All were admitted to hospital.

Call for donations to parties to be made public

Donations to lawmakers had to be made public but those to political parties did not - but should be, Chinese University associate professor Wilson Wong Wai-ho told a forum. His comments came after documents leaked last week showed Apple Daily owner Jimmy Lai Chee-ying had donated millions of dollars to pan-democrats over several years.

112 children aged 13 to 17 detained at TST bar

Police detained 112 children aged 13 to 17 at a bar in Prat Avenue, Tsim Sha Tsui, at about 1.20am. Officers also seized small amounts of the drugs nimetazepam, ketamine and cannabis at the venue.
