PRIM AND PROPER

There's no doubting the rise of the Asian model, with names like Liu Wen, Ming Xi, Fei Fei Sun and Du Juan regulars on international runways. Add to the list Wang Xiao, whose big break came last year when she was booked for a major campaign with top fashion photographer Steven Meisel. 'The industry now views the Asian market as vital, particularly in the luxury goods sector,' she says. 'China is one of the largest world markets, so it is no surprise that we are seeing more girls from the Far East appearing on the international runways.' Indeed, Wang has had a busy couple of months at fashion weeks around the world. 'My favourite moment was having my photographer husband with me at the New York shows; It was great having the moral support during one of the most stressful periods of the fashion calendar.' On the catwalk she might style high-end looks, but at home she's a little more down to earth. 'I get most of my inspiration from watching how people on the street style their outfits, because everyone expresses themselves differently. I don't really have a favourite designer as such, although I wear a lot of Comme des Garcons, Junya Watanabe and Phillip Lim.'
