Merry Christmas, mates!

The official Christmas cards for the Australian Consulate-General are rather special this year: they were designed by Hong Kong students. The Consulate-General's Merry Aussie Christmas Card competition asked for artwork that represents either how Christmas is celebrated Down Under, or the friendship between Australia and Hong Kong.

Janessa Chou Ho-wing from Australian International School won the Junior Secondary Section. Her digital artwork shows a beach and two surfers: one Australian, the other a Hongkonger. 'Australians like the beach and many love outdoor sports such as surfing,' says the 15-year old. 'The two people are friends, [symbolising] the friendship between the two countries.'

Yeo Hee-soo from Delia School of Canada painted two country flags. 'I like simple designs and I think flags are symbolic,' says the 16-year-old winner of the senior secondary section. 'I went to Australia when I was little ... it's a beautiful country.'

See the students' designs at the Fringe Club until the end of the year.
