19 charged over Central protest after July 1 march
Police have charged 19 people - eight of them committee members of People Power, including legislators Wong Yuk-man and Albert Chan Wai-yip - over a protest in Central after last year's July 1 march. All were charged with violating the public order law. Wong and Chan were also charged with organising the gathering, gathering without legal authority and breaching the peace. All will appear in Eastern Court on January 19.
City short by 6,000 hotel rooms, James Tien says
The city needed an extra 5,000 to 6,000 hotel rooms because of surging visitor numbers, Tourism Board chairman James Tien Pei-chun said in urging the government to help end the shortage yesterday. Arrivals hit a record 41.92 million last year, up 16.4 per cent on 2010, with more than 28 million from the mainland, up 23.9 per cent on 2010.
IKEA recalls belts on high chairs after accidents
IKEA is recalling belts on the China-made Antilop children's high chair after eight reports of the belts opening spontaneously, three cases resulting in minor injury. None happened in Hong Kong. Affected models have the number 17389 and production date 0607-0911.
Airport Express to run every 10 minutes
Airport Express service is to be increased to every 10 minutes before midnight from mid-January, the MTR Corporation said. It would also start at 5am on January 20 to 22 to cope with Lunar New Year demand.
