Hospitals may ban mainland mothers:

Janet Lui - It's useless. All the intensive care unit babies [born in private hospitals] will transfer to the public ones. The root of the problem can only be solved by stopping the issuing of Hong Kong IDs to babies [whose parents are both mainlanders].

Michael Anthony Phillips - The right of abode should be withdrawn. If they cannot get anything out of birthing in Hong Kong, like schooling and the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance, mainland women won't come. Nowhere else in the world these days grants automatic right of abode just by being born in that foreign country. So why should mainlanders [neither of whose] parents [are] Hong Kong citizens [be granted it here]?

Sam Ho - It does not make sense. Mainland mothers-to-be rush to the emergency room at the last minute, but we cannot deny them the delivery service, or we would be the same as mainland hospitals.

Ella Sashimi - While people keep talking about mainland mothers, many mothers from other developing countries (the Philippines, Africa etc) are giving birth here, securing a golden future for their kids at our expense. This right of abode to Peter, John and Mary must stop now.

On Singapore stealing a march on Hong Kong:

Betty Elledge - It is important for Hong Kong to keep working on its regulatory creditability, extensive international network and its vast pool of talent. Its location is a plus and it needs to focus more on innovation.

On developers turning against a law aimed at regulating flat sales:

Kelvin Ng - The chief executive and transport and housing secretary thought they might, for once, be able to say 'no' to the property tycoons. They are now being slapped in the face.
