Guessing the Grammys

Few award shows garner as much mixed emotions as the Grammys, the biggest night in music. Viewers are often subjected to a roller coaster of feelings - from astonishment to disappointment to relief, all within a few hours. The 54th Grammy Awards (showing tomorrow at 9am HKT) will be no exception.

The always outspoken Kanye West leads the way with seven nominations. No surprise there. Adele, Foo Fighters and Bruno Mars have six each. Skrillex, a relative unknown in pop circles but a heavyweight on the dance scene, has five, along with mainstay rockers Radiohead.

Young Post compiled our picks for five categories. After plenty of arm-twisting and heated debates, we came away with this consensus.

Our prediction: Tron Legacy

This category honours the best in film and television score composition. Film quality is irrelevant here. That said, it's hard to imagine the battles in Tron Legacy's neon grid arenas without the brilliant score by electronic trailblazers Daft Punk. The duo even has a brief cameo in the film - that should be a factor, no?

Our prediction: Nicki Minaj

Few artists have had more ink spilled about them - digital or otherwise - this year than Nicki Minaj. She was also the most sought after, and perhaps prolific, collaborator this year, a sure sign that her peers are also fans. Skrillex is our dark-horse pick. Think about this: he has yet to release a studio album. We see his underground status, and dubstep in general, as a double edge.

Our prediction: Rolling in the Deep

Adele gets our nod here. A soulful voice like hers doesn't come around too often. Grammy judges know that but may give Kanye his first Grammy in a category outside rap. Both are deserving, but Adele should get the slight upper hand.

Our prediction: Born This Way

There's no reason why Rihanna made the list and not Kanye's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Still, this should come down to 21 and Born This Way, with the latter pulling through. It's hard to imagine the queen of pop being snubbed, even though she's nominated in two other categories. If the show gets to this category and Gaga has yet to hold a piece of hardware, it will definitely be hers.

Pencil it in - Adele will walk away with this one. Multiple Grammy wins will cap off a fantastic year for the English songstress.
