An alcohol awareness campaign directed at young people -'Binge Drinking ... Knowing the Facts' - has been launched before this month's Hong Kong Sevens.
The campaign is run by the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union and the Kely Support Group youth charity. It discourages heavy drinking, and offers advice about the dangers of alcohol to fans at the annual showpiece event which will be held from March 23-25.
Government figures show the number of Hong Kong children drinking alcohol before they are 12 rose from 49 per cent in 2004-05 to 53 per cent in 2008-09.
The campaign targets students at 63 local and international schools. It explains the need to avoid peer pressure and make smart choices when drinking alcohol.
