The Club Saujana Resort, Kuala Lumpur

What is it? Under the management of Archipelago Hotels and Resorts, the former Hyatt hotel on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur has been transformed into a 'b-leisure' resort hard-wired for business. Deals can be made over a round of golf on one of the two 18- hole championship courses that fringe the resort and the 35-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (or the five-minute trip from Subang Airport) is effortless in the back of Club Saujana's gleaming white Mercedes SLR.

What are the rooms like? Set in a peace- ful environment with abundant bird life, 105 guest suites designed in contemporary Asian style provide refuge from the tropical intensity. Light filters through latticed screens patterning honey-hued floorboards and glancing off exotic timber and clotted-cream walls. There's complimentary Wi-fi throughout the resort, which includes a number of discreet tree-top level suites. The top-of-the-range Club Saujana Suite boasts a palatial bathroom with double spa bath, private gym and twin massage room overlooking the shimmering pool.

What about the food? A tropical lagoon and cascading waterfall provide the tranquil backdrop to Club Saujana's busy restaurant. Inspired by the vitality of the city's hawker food, Austrian chef Alexander Waschl's menu explores Euro-Asian culinary fusions, such as dried watermelon carpaccio. Familiar European dishes are modified to suit local tastes while the combination of chocolate and local passion fruit results in a semi- frozen dessert of Euro-tropical richness.

Tell us about the spa. Spa and Med Beauty is a private sanctuary surrounded by tropical rainforest. On offer at the clinically white beauty section are consultations with the resident specialist doctor and, among other treatments, a luxurious two-hour anti-ageing facial that combines micro-dermabrasion, ultra-sound and vacuum suction with plant stem cells.

What's the bottom line? Rooms start at 1,200 ringgit (HK$3,100) a night, with the Saujana Suite going for 4,000 ringgit.
