The Manolo Blahnik spring-summer collection is sexy, fun and elegantly put together. Sweeping lines and saturated hues complement silver-ball heels (above far right) and open-toed booties. A favourite is a dainty sandal with straps made from dancing creole figures (above right).
For Blahnik obsessives, 10 styles selected from the archives have been relaunched in an exclusive project with Lane Crawford. A collaborative exhibition in mid-February celebrated the designer's career and debuted a selection of personal photographs taken by Blahnik of famous friends, such as Katharine Hepburn, Bianca Jagger and Anna Piaggi. The archive pieces include favourites such as his Mondrian-inspired pumps and Alexander Calder-inspired flats, and are available at the IFC Mall store in Central as well as online, until the end of this month.
The designer and the Hong Kong retailer have also collaborated on a series of items for other classic international labels. Blahnik created a small collection for Causse Gantier, the century-old French leather glove house; for British department store Fortnum & Mason, he created hampers; and for Globe-Trotter travel goods, Blahnik designed a luggage collection. New York-based luxury stationery label Connor gets in on the act with a Manolo Blahnik-themed embossed line; luxury glasswear brand Artel created Blahnik engraved crystal tumblers; and Italian scarf label Olmetto launched four exquisite scarves printed with Blahnik sketches.
