American footwear brand Steve Madden's spring-summer 2012 collection is inspired by New York's street art, and the preview on Thursday was all about energy and flair. Models in long, black see-through dresses or colourful skinny pants walked and danced to songs including I See You Baby by English electronica duo Groove Armada and an upbeat version of singer-songwriter Adele's Rolling In The Deep.
The simple setting at a public space outside shops in the Central Building, Pedder Street, featured a black backdrop with the Steve Madden logo surrounded by a starry array of multihued lights, adding to the hip factor of the show.
Categorised into four lines - City Tribe, Turn On The Brights, Shine On! and Weaving Through Spring - many of the bolder designs came with imposing high heels but the models managed to pull it off. They strutted their stuff admirably down the mini stages - in the shape of a pink heart and a green peace symbol - dotting the space to ensure everybody got a glimpse of their shoes, and their dance moves, of course.
