It's a beautiful life

I totally agree with the writer of the letter 'Take time to see the good things in life' (Young Post, February 28). Some simple things in life have become a lost art. People are too busy to receive or give love. They are missing so many beautiful things - and sometimes I miss them, too.

So why not take some time to look out the window or do something that you used to like to do? In my view, Hongkongers should learn from Western countries, where once you finish work for the day, you can relax and take care of the people around you.

A little bit of care can make a person happier. Helping and greeting each other, or even a short chat, are ways to show your love to people around you. Just slow down. It's a beautiful life.

From the Editor

Thank you for your letter, Caty. People overseas believe Hong Kong is a city that never sleeps - full of citizens who just don't stop.

But just because we don't sleep doesn't mean we notice what's going on in our own city. We bury our heads in our smartphones and ignore everything around us. In a world where technology makes communication much easier, we do surprisingly little of it in person.

You've really hit the nail on the head with your letter. It is a beautiful life, but if we don't slow down to smell the roses, we may as well be living in a vacuum.

Whether it's walking in and appreciating our countryside, or noticing how much life in the city goes on above street level, there's so much to our fabulous home. And so many fantastic people to share our insights with.
