Beauty buzz

This spring, lipsticks run the gamut from bold and bright to sweet and subtle. We've tested a selection of the season's offerings.

Valentina (HK$330) from Becca's Balearic Love Collection is a subtle, nude pink shade. The sheer lipstick has a light sheen, enhancing the lips' natural colour, and feels like a good lip balm. The shade is easy to pair with a variety of palettes, so stash it in your handbag for everyday use. Available at all Becca counters.

Chanel's Paradis (HK$260) is the latest addition to the brand's Rouge Coco range of lipsticks. The coral pink shade is sheer but looks glossy and bright. The lipstick goes on smoothly and evenly, and lips feel well-hydrated. Colour can be intensified with repeated application. Needs to be reapplied every three or so hours. Available at all Chanel stores and counters.

Laura Mercier's Tres Chic lipsticks (HK$170) have made a fabulous debut with five shades. We like the warm, pink tones of the Rosette. The lipstick glides on easily, leaving lips feeling soft and moisturised. Suitable for daytime, the light hue gives a rosy and fresh finish. The colour needs to be refreshed every few hours. Available at all Laura Mercier stores.

Shu Uemura's Rouge Unlimited range (HK$210) has four new shades this season. We love the bright, Tao Pink. The colour is rich and thick, providing full coverage for up to four hours. The entire line has also been updated with a new formula. Ingredients include jojoba seed oil and shea butter. Available at all Shu Uemura counters and stores.
