An oasis for shoppers

For two decades, Horizon Plaza has been the leading destination for those looking to refurbish their homes, attracting not only owners but also interior designers who can choose from a wide array of international furnishing designs.

Vast retail space in this converted warehouse allows shop owners to display more of their wares than they could in most other districts of Hong Kong, where land is at a premium and rents are high.

Located on Ap Lei Chau in an area once known as a manufacturing hub, Horizon Plaza has more than 150 shops spread over 28 floors.

Although the emphasis is on furniture, whether it be contemporary, antique or for outdoors, the plaza has a growing number of discount fashion outlets featuring brands such as Moiselle, MaxMara, Polo Ralph Lauren, Armani, Lane Crawford, Joyce Boutique and more.

Home accessories, carpets and gifts for adults and children are also in abundance alongside specialist food and wine outlets, a pet supplies shop and several cafes. Views of the Lamma Channel through floor-to-ceiling windows in some of the south-facing shops enhance the unique experience of shopping at Horizon Plaza.

Custom-made furniture and one-of-a-kind household items and accessories are also available in many of the furniture stores.

A floor directory is clearly displayed in the lobby, with a shopper's guide brochure available on the counter.

It's advisable to check where you are going before taking the lift as there are no more directories to be had once you leave the lobby area.

Horizon Plaza, at 2 Lee Wing Street, is about a 20-minute drive from Central.

It is an easy journey via public transport from Central, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, with regular buses to Ap Lei Chau Estate.

From there, a free shuttle bus takes shoppers to Horizon Plaza's car park via South Horizons, where the bus picks customers up outside Block 17 of May Fai Court.

The MTR is also building a new line to the south side of Hong Kong, with a station at South Horizons due to open in the next few years.
