In search of happiness

If luxury is a way of life, happiness is even more so. Hongkongers know how to work hard and play hard. They know all about achievements and they invest smartly. But at the end of the day, are they happy? According to the World Happiness Report commissioned by the United Nations, our city is ranked 67th worldwide.

Having a nice home certainly helps. But that's not all, according to Columbia University researchers who prepared the report. Strong social networks, health, political freedom, an absence of corruption, personal freedom and psychological well-being are also important.

Perhaps happy people make other people happy too. It's interesting to note that Angry Birds, the smartphone app that has given a lot of people plenty of joy, comes from Finland, the second-happiest country in the world after Denmark. And there are many things we can all do to brighten our day.
