Presenting an assortment of products that combine creativity with practicality, the HKTDC Hong Kong Gifts and Premium Fair is a not-to-be-missed event for buyers on the prowl.
Hong Kong-based Soohap Design (booths 1E-E28, ED-TSO) is showing a nature-inspired series of houseware, including the patented Camellia Floating tea infuser. Shaped like a leaf, made from food-grade silicone, and with two compartments for holding tea leaves and air, the infuser is designed to float on water like fresh tea leaves.
The company's other products, the Victoria silicone trivet and pot holder, are inspired by Victoria, the largest leaf on earth, which can support up to 31.75kg. Meanwhile, the four Piper pepper grinders mimic the appearance of a pepper vine in all four seasons and convey the feeling of freshness of the peppercorn, the fruit of a piper plant.
Kilovest (HK) (booth 1C-A38), known for creating innovative and low-cost watches, is offering a selection of its famous Paper Watch, which has been a popular souvenir used by brands such as Coca-Cola and the television show American Idol.
Sam Yeung, managing director of Kilovest (HK), says it is important to step into the shoes of the user when designing a product. 'You have to come up with a lot of ideas and think like a child,' he says. Also on display from the company are waterproof Digit-Band watches and SiliBAG, a one-piece silicone tote bag.
Another exhibitor, Midori (booth 1E-D44), is debuting two sets (Farm and Wild Forest) of steel animal-shaped page markers. The Farm set consists of a chicken, cow, pig, donkey and sheep, while the Wild Forest set has a deer, bear, duck, owl and fox. The company is also exhibiting a four-piece collection of Silicone Skyline coasters, which illustrate iconic buildings in Paris, London, Hong Kong and Tokyo, and several brass bookmarks coloured by hand.
Yeung's Manufacturing (booth 1B-F03) is offering some of the popular licensed products it carries, including Rody, a brand from Italy and represented by a toy horse, which has appeared on a range of product categories, and Maggiology, the design of which is based on a local comic series and whose products can be found at more than 200 retail locations. Another brand, 'This is not it' Robot, created by a Japanese designer team, applies the psychology of a child receiving a present he doesn't like or expect to product design, such that there is often an element of surprise to the contents or function of a product.
