There won't be any weddings held in Beijing this Valentine's Day, the city's Civil Affairs Bureau announced [1] yesterday.

Because February 14 this year also happens to be the fifth day of the lunar calendar and part of the Lunar New Year national holiday, a Bureau spokesperson said, wedding registry offices in the city will not be open for business.

According to the Beijing Morning Post, nearly 4,000 couples waited until Valentine's Day to sign monogamy contracts last year, and even more did the same in 2011.

"As is normally done, the wedding registry department will be closed according to the State Council holiday schedule this year," the Bureau spokesperson said, "and no overtime shifts will be added."
