Nadal returns from seven-month lay-off
Rafael Nadal returns from a seven-month injury lay-off at the Vina del Mar clay court event in Chile. Ranked world No 5 after not playing since his shock second-round defeat at Wimbledon in June, the winner of 11 grand slams is keen to cool speculation over whether he can return to No 1, now occupied by Novak Djokovic. "After seven months without playing, I am not even thinking of the world No 1 spot. I am just concentrating on doing my best," the Spaniard said. Recurrence of a long-standing knee injury as well as illness kept him off the tour. Those setbacks meant he missed the Olympics, where he was the defending champion, the US Open, the Davis Cup final and last month's Australian Open.
