Pan-dems demand probe of Lew's claims

Pan-democrat lawmakers move a Legislative Council motion demanding an investigation into claims by a former ally of Leung Chun-ying about the chief executive's conduct. Beijing-loyalist businessman Lew Mon-hung sparked a media frenzy when he claimed Leung had "made up" claims that the chief executive invited three professionals to examine his home for illegal structures. Leung vigorously denies the claims by Lew.

 

Game on for PlayStation announcement

Sony welcomes 1,200 people to an event in New York which is expected to see the announcement of the fourth generation of its PlayStation games console. Details of the PlayStation 4 have been a closely guarded secret, but reports suggest it will include an enhanced capacity to stream and store games from an online "cloud". The Japanese electronics giant announced last week that it was cutting the price of its existing PlayStation products.

 

Greek workers strike against austerity

Workers across Greece hold a 24-hour strike, the latest in a series of walkouts in protest against austerity measures demanded by the country's international creditors in return for continued bailout funds. Greece has been ordered to cut 150,000 public-sector jobs before 2015, about 20 per cent of the total, through hiring curbs, retirements and dismissals.

 

Speed queen in world championship action

Hong Kong's velodrome queen Sarah Lee Wai-sze is in Ukraine for the cycling world championships. The 25-year-old Lee, bronze medallist in the keirin at the London Olympics, will compete in both the keirin and the sprint during the four-day meeting. She hopes to add to the two world cup titles she won last month, but faces tough competition from mainland and British cyclists.

 

Jobless man sentenced for rape

An unemployed man found guilty of raping a mentally disabled woman at Ap Lei Chau Estate market learns his fate at a sentencing hearing in the High Court. Cheung Siu-hung, 29, was convicted last month by a High Court jury of raping the 22-year-old woman on January 26 last year. Mr Justice Derek Pang Wai-cheong said Cheung would face at least five years in prison.

 

Be a devil: tickets on sale for United game

Football fans will line up for the chance to see Manchester United on their visit to Hong Kong this summer. It's the first time in eight years the Red Devils, who include England stars such as Wayne Rooney, have visited the city. Tickets for the game against local side Kitchee on July 29 are available online and at Urbtix outlets from HK$390 to HK$990.
