The Hong Kong delegate to the National People's Congress drew a relatively modest vote as she was re-elected to the NPC Standing Committee. She saw the number of votes against her re-election increase almost threefold to 124, from 42 in 2008. Still, she was never in any danger of defeat - 95 per cent of delegates did support her.

Huhne persuaded his then-wife to accept penalty points, for which he would have been banned from driving, on his behalf in 2003. But his wife, Vicky Pryce, took revenge when Huhne dumped her in favour of his mistress eight years later and blew the whistle. Pryce, like Huhne, will serve eight months in prison for perverting the course of justice.
New York's mayor was thwarted at the last minute in his attempt to ban super-sized servings of sugary drinks. A court blocked the move after a challenge by a coalition of unions and restaurant industry leaders. Bloomberg dubbed the ruling "completely wrong" and vowed to appeal.
