Landmark throws its Christmas party

Anthony and Jocelyn Sandstrom get into the spirit of the season at the Landmark's Zero Degrees Christmas event.

Nothing says Christmas is coming like maniacs with chainsaws. Throw some fire juggling into the mix and you have a potent batch of holiday cheer. That was certainly the case at the Landmark on Thursday where celebrities, socialites and Hong Kong's other power-consumers gathered to celebrate the opening of the shopping season and ring in the start of Landmark's Zero Degrees Christmas Campaign.

The chainsaw-wielding madmen, clad in white snowsuits, sunglasses, and sporting bleached white faces under spiked platinum-blond hair, turned out to be ice sculptors and celebrated the event by whittling down a block of ice in unison as techno music blared.

Throughout the presentation VIPs moved in and out, browsing in nearby stores and doing a bit of Christmas shopping. Yolanda Choy, the socialite and owner of Central Weddings, eyed shoes in Jimmy Choo, trailed by photographers.

Though cradling a pair of sparkling shoes, Yolanda had a confession to make: "I think everyone should get rid of all the planning and shopping and all that and just focus on relaxing. But I've already bought all of my Christmas presents. That's why I can say that."

Just then she was cut short as flames leaped from the bar area. The fire juggling had begun and for the first time shoppers took their eyes off of the chainsaws, eyeing a new festive threat.
