It was only appropriate that bottles of Taittinger were popping and crooner Serge Gainsbourg could be heard gently whispering French etudes in the background at Salon de Ning. Lingerie designer Chantal Thomass was the guest of honour at an intimate private party held in the plush basement lounge of the Peninsula Hotel.
Between sips of the fizzy stuff, Thomass offered up her theory on what makes a woman sexy. “When a woman is self-confident, she feels beautiful,” she said. “To wear my lingerie brings out her selfconfidence. Then she feels beautiful, and then … she can seduce.”
Thomass has yet to open a boutique in the city, so fans of her “unmentionables” will have to fly to Paris to pick up that little something for the boudoir.
Let's hear it for the bagman
Actor, sometime singer and enthusiastic pilot Michael Wong Man-tak has carved out a new role for himself - as accessory designer. Wong recently marked his second collaboration with Italian leather goods brand Giorgio Fedon 1919 at an event showcasing his collection of namesake bags and accessories for the adventure-minded professional.
The gentleman that he is, Wong took some time out to help model Mandy Lieu celebrate her birthday. Lieu was presented with a cake decorated to look like one of the slick designer satchels.
Also there to celebrate Wong's success were his wife, Janet Ma Sze-wai, and girls-about-town Christine Au-Yeung, Ana Rivera, Ankie Beilke and Lelia Chow.
Juicy launch proves a tight squeeze
From Betty Grable in the 1940s to Madonna in the '80s and more recently Dita Von Teese, many of the world's sexiest women are held up as pin-up girls. And their local incarnations turned out in force at a cocktail party to launch casual wear label Juicy Couture's latest campaign, The Modern Pin-Up, including Angelina Anderson, Alice Burns and Jennifer Tse Ting-ting.
It drew a bigger crush than an MTR train at rush hour with fashionistas, socialites and actors crammed into the confines of The Press Room on Hollywood Road.
To help add some "juiciness" to the occasion, the brand invited special guests - singer Kary Ng Yu-fei, fashion blogger Judy Ip and model-actress Jennifer Tse - to appear as Sailor Girl, Malibu Girl and Glamour Girl, respectively. Also spotted in the crowd were Eliza Sam, Karena Ng, Carrie Chiu, Crystal Li, Khloe Chu, Deborah Hung, Tisha Law and Otto Chan.
