Restaurant review: La Station in Wan Chai is a natural beauty

French-owned La Station channels the Paris Metro and is a good place to stop off for a healthy snack

La Station is a cafe owned by three Frenchmen: Merwann, Christophe and Matthieu. The first thing you notice as you step inside is the interesting subway-style decor and its very friendly baristas. The shop serves coffee, light meals and snacks.

Don’t be deceived by the simple look of the berry yogurt (HK$35): it’s delicious. The yogurt is topped with fruit and biscuit crumbs, which add taste and texture, and honey is served separately, so you can control the sweetness.

As they were promoting their new summer berry smoothies on Facebook, we decided to try the banana and blueberry smoothie (HK$45). It tasted fresh and natural and there was definitely no added sugar. There was also a very strong scent and taste of blueberry which we liked very much.

On the other hand, we have mixed opinions about the Americano (HK$30). My friend is a coffee addict and thought that the smell and taste of coffee beans were not strong enough. However, for a casual coffee drinker like me, it was enjoyable as it was not too bitter.

Marble cake (HK$25) was disappointing – it had only hint of chocolate, and was dry and crumbly.
