Ramen, curry, tapas and Greek cuisine among his picks

Santorini (51 Elgin Street, Central, tel: 2810 6106) is one of my favourite picks for dinner in SoHo. It is always a pleasure to be there and Andreas, one of the owners, is a wonderful host. The food and service are top notch and of course the Greek dishes are amazing.

I go nowhere else for tzatziki, and all the meat and fish dishes are served to perfection - the mixed meat platter is one of my favourites. I enjoy going there because it’s run with passion and if you are lucky enough, Andreas will invite to taste a very particular liquor from the island of Chios – simply delicious.

I find the same thread of passion and personality at Oma (LB/F, Harilela House, 79 Wyndham Street, Central, tel 2521 8815). It’s great for fun and drinks. Few, if any places, keep me going into the small hours. And it doesn’t matter if you’re not in a dancing mood – Oma’s music is so good just to listen to. Their sound system plays music as it should and the crowd is always dancing and having fun with the variety of music and international guest DJs. I greatly enjoyed the “Based on Kyoto” concert at the end of October; it was such a great evening.

I rarely have lunch but when I do I like to stop at two places: there is a little Japanese ramen place called Kenko Syokuhin Ramen (Welley Building, 97 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2328 6227). The fried rice is superb and the ramen among the best.

My other favourite is Ganga’s (B/F, 57-59 Wyndham Street, Central, tel: 2537 7933) that for decades has offered exquisite Indian food. I always enjoy their dal and curries.

I live in Sai Kung and my weekend morning espresso at Casa (Sui Yat Building, 1 Sai Kung Hoi Pong Square, Sai Kung, tel:2440 9288) has become a pleasant habit. The coffee is really good – as are the fresh juices. The tapas is definitely enjoyable – an interesting twist of flavours and a great diverse menu. A big thumbs up for the prices, especially for wine.
