Tucked into a corner of Tsim Sha Tsui's Nathan Road is an inconspicuous door leading to the Mira spa, a modern basement facility that includes a 25-metre infinity pool, hi-tech gym, heat treatment facilities, a nail salon and plenty of rooms for pampering.
I'm here to road test the Mother's Day special, a 2½-hour package designed for mothers and daughters. My massage therapist Connie starts me off with a warm footbath, as I browse a selection of Aromatherapy Associates oils to use during the 60-minute massage. I opt for Destress Muscle body oil and a lymphatic massage.
The massage is soothing. The knowledgeable and attentive therapist uses long strokes to activate the lymph nodes. The pressure is controlled well, especially when it comes to my stressed-out shoulders.
I choose the Rose-Aromatic hydrating version for the facial. I'm usually a bit sceptical about facials, but this one is thoroughly enjoyable. Rose cleanser, exfoliating mask, hydrating mask and serum are each seamlessly applied with relaxing strokes in the almost one-hour ritual. Blackheads are also extracted. My skin is plump, smoother and softer after.
It's difficult getting up after almost two hours on the fluffy massage bed, but reluctantly I head to the nail saloon for a quick pedicure. This turns out to be pretty thorough - not one of those cheap 10-minute jobs where they only do the bare minimum.
The spa facilities are enjoyable and I finish with a sumptuous high tea served beside the infinity pool. The package is ideal for an afternoon of ultra-relaxing mother-daughter pampering. I'd recommend it for mothers with teenage daughters and older, as younger children may not have the patience.
Still, the stellar facilities and warm cocoon-like vibe of the spa make this place very hard to leave.
Mother and Daughter Spa Heaven (2½ hours) costs HK$3,850 on weekdays for two. Available at the Mira Spa, Tsim Sha Tsui. For mothers coming alone a solo package (starting at HK$1,800 for 2½ hours) is also available
