My hair seems to get thinner each year. What can I do to get back my once-luscious locks?
You’re not alone when it comes to concerns about thinning hair. According to consultant trichologist Jane Martins, from Philip Kingsley hair clinic in London, thinning hair can be due to age (menopause in women) and other factors, including unstable hormone levels.
There are steps you can take to improve hair quality, like applying a topical scalp solution with antiandrogens – although Martins points out that these should only be prescribed by a professional.
Diet can play a key role, as can supplements. “Make sure you have a balanced diet with a good protein intake for breakfast, as hair is composed primarily of proteins,” Martins says. “Lunch is also important, and do not leave longer than three to four hours between healthy snacks.”
Martins also recommends Philip Kingsley’s PK4 Hair protein supplements, which enhance the production of keratin and are fortified with amino acids that are essential to strong, healthy hair and hair growth.
“Body-building and volumising products can be used to help improve the look of the hair,” she adds.
“Clean hair will always have more volume, so don’t be afraid that washing yours will create more hair fall.”
Philip Kingsley Body Building Shampoo and Conditioner are designed to leave the hair with more bounce and also less flyaway, while the brand’s Maximizer spray can be applied after washing to improve root lift. Philip Kingsley products are available at The Mandarin Salon, where the staff has been trained by the Philip Kingsley team.
