NICO’S SPUNTINO BAR + RESTAURANT
G/F, 49 ELGIN STREET
Fat Angelo's was sorely missed when it vacated its premises, but in its place is more Italian fare. Nico's Spuntino offers southern dishes, ideal for a casual bite to eat along the Mid-Levels escalator.
The starter of burrata cheese (HK$68/HK$128) was creamy with sun-dried tomato and pesto sauces. The seafood platter (HK$188) featured octopus in a spicy arrabiata sauce, prawn cocktail, and smoked swordfish and tuna, and marinated anchovies.
Crispy breaded smoked cow's milk cheese (HK$98) was crunchy and soft, while the three-cheese base thin-crust pizza (HK$108) with Gorgonzola was topped with radicchio leaves. Mamma Assunta's pizza featured fresh pork sausage and white mushrooms (HK$118). The tortellini de carne (HK$68/HK$188) was home-made with 50 per cent pork, 50 per cent beef, while steak lovers will enjoy the aged T-bone cut to order at HK$78 per 100grams, a minimum order of 350g.
Sweet options include gelato (HK$30 one scoop) with Hong Kong milk tea, Earl Grey, lemon or pistachio. The tiramisu (HK$58) lacked flavour, while the shot of Sicilian sweet wine was easy drinking with a chocolate covered, cigar-shaped phyllo pastry (HK$98).
