Hong Kong’s Little Creatures stays true to Aussie character
Passion of beer-loving friends in a forgotten Fremantle, Western Australia boat shed and crocodile farm survives the journey to Hong Kong
Little Creatures was born out of the passion of a group of beer-loving friends and in a forgotten boat shed and crocodile farm on the waterfront of Fremantle, Western Australia. This Hong Kong waterfront location, with its high-ceiling, open kitchen and industrial feel, stays true to the brand’s whimsical and relaxed Aussie character.
COST
There are “sharing plates” for HK$65 to HK$175; “small plates” from HK$65; “large plates” from HK$175 to HK$270; pizzas from HK$90; and desserts from HK$75.
TURN-ONS
It felt great to walk into a lively beer hall setting and be greeted by jolly staff. The meat patties in the Angus beef sliders were crusty outside and juicy inside. The crispy chicken pieces had a nice spicy punch and did not feel at all greasy. The steamed mussels with chorizo, white wine, herbs and butter were packed with oceanic goodness and layered in flavour. The crispy pork belly with corn and pepper relish and grilled fennel was tender and perfectly seasoned. The chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce filling was simply an explosion of sweetness and buttery aroma.
TURN-OFFS
If we were to complain, the chicken could have come with more than one choice of dip, a chilli pineapple sauce.
DRINKS
There are 11 wine options, 10 craft beers and a cider. The Little Creatures Rogers ale we tried was velvety and had a pleasant floral undertone.
