Crystal Jade restaurant impresses with Shanghai delicacies such as xiao long bao

Innovative xiao long bao provides opportunity to sample four delicious buns

Crystal Jade's multi-flavoured Xiao Long Bao.

FARE Shanghai delicacies, dim sum and noodles. AMBIENCE Casual dining with soft lighting and light wooden-coloured chairs and tables. COST Around HK$300 for a lunch for two with five types of dim sum and two cold drinks. WHO TO BRING Colleagues, friends and family. TURN-ONS All the dim sum we ordered was freshly prepared and served at the right temperature. We liked the multiflavoured xiao long bao which allowed us to sample four buns with innovative ingredients, including spicy beef, pork and black truffle, pork and French beans, and pork and cheese. They were all delicious, with thin skin and juicy fillings. The pork and vegetable wonton soup was fresh with delicious pork, shrimp and vegetable filling, and the soup was tasty. The deep-fried radish cake was covered with a crunchy layer on the outside and soft radish delicious filling on the inside. TURN-OFFS Though we arrived shortly after lunch hour on a weekday, the restaurant was packed and there was little space between two tables, partly because tables in the more spacious bench sitting area on one side of the restaurant were all “reserved”. DRINKS Complimentary Chinese tea, a choice of two, is served on seating. There is also a selection of cold drinks, and a local draft beer. We tried a special cold drink of longan, wolfberry and pear which was refreshing with the right balance of sweet and sour tastes.
