Behind the label: Walter Steiger

Who started it? Born into a family of Swiss shoemakers, Walter Steiger has been crafting wondrous creations for 50 years. Steiger got his break designing the Bally Madeleine collection in 1962 and hasn't looked back. In 1967, working under the family label, he launched himself into the world of high fashion to wild acclaim. He went on to work with the likes of Emanuel Ungaro, Kenzo Takada and Karl Lagerfeld. Nowadays, Steiger is based in Italy and dreams up his latest creations from the comfort of a Renaissance palace that doubles as a home and design studio.

Why we love it: really, what's not to love? Steiger's earlier designs are classics of their era and his latest shoes carry on that fine tradition. The Walter Steiger brand DNA is all about innovation and a wow factor.
