I saw a photo on Twitter of Ryan Higa’s September trip to Hong Kong that showed his new bag from Herschel Supply Co Brand. I’m dying to find the shop that Ryan bought it from. Any clues? I’m desperate to find this damn bag.
Mr Dapper: Who is Ryan Higa? Herschel Supply Co was founded by brothers Jamie and Lyndon Cormack in 2009, inspired by the general store in their hometown, Herschel, Canada. Higa was pictured wearing a Little America Denim backpack with tan leather straps. The brand does not deliver outside the United States, but www.revolveclothing.com does, with the same US$150 price tag.
Mr Dandy: Who’s Ryan Higa? Only the hot Japanese-American Nigahiga YouTube sensation! Let me drop you more knowledge. Herschel Supply Co is distributed locally by District (12/F, 1 Yip Fat Street, Wong Chuk Hang, tel: 2552 8869; www.dstrt.com ) to stores such as Eleven After Eleven (12A Elgin Street, Central, tel: 2368 1181) and Catalog (Langham Place, Mong Kok, tel: 3514 4132). The LeSportsac-decorated column in the Twitter pic looks like Harbour City, so I’m guessing Higa was shopping in Tsim Sha Tsui, maybe at Photato (Miramar Shopping Centre, tel: 2376 2900), City’super Log-On (iSquare, 63 Nathan Road, tel: 2627 9501) or Juice (Woodhouse, 36 Nathan Road, tel: 2311 9006). Hypebeast.com and Ka-pok.com have sold out, but stock cool alternatives by Wood Wood, Head Porter, Seventy Eight Percent and Universal Works.
I am tired of slim-fit, skinny jeans. I want to wear something baggy for a change, but I like to look fashionable, not "hip-hoppy" or businessy but still playful and young. Do these trousers exist and where I can find them for about HK$2,000?
Mr Dapper: You lost me at “baggy”. If said mythical trousers do exist, they are probably worn by unicorns. In Shangri-La. Seriously, if you must live in a twisted fairytale, just ask Goldilocks and the Three Bears? OK. Here’s an insight. Classic chinos: not too tight, not too loose, but just right. And they are sold at most men’s shops.
Mr Dandy: Ignore him. Ranting comes with senility. I’m so excited we don’t have to pay designer prices any more for innovative fashion! I fall in love every time I walk into Initial (Tak Woo House, 1Wo On Lane, Central, tel: 2526 8862), which has got exactly what you want in linens and cottons (HK$1,090), wools (HK$1,590) and the most enchanting blue velvet (HK$1,290), many with matching jackets. D-mop (11 On Lan Street, Central, tel: 2840 0822) has amazing baggy and dropped-crotch black trousers by Odeur (HK$1,800 to HK$2,230) and Injury (HK$2,750) as well as Jeremy Scott’s fabulously flashy Versace-esque trackpants (HK$1,800). I hope you got your paws on the H&M x Maison Martin Margiela collection (68 Queen’s Road Central, tel: 2110 9546); sure, the trousers are slim-fit but they’re a new Thom Browne-style length and in interesting fabrics, and all for only HK$799!
