EVENT Hugo Boss Store Opening After Party
WHERE Pier 7, Central

HAPPENINGS: It was a doubly happy occasion for Hugo Boss. The German fashion brand opened not one but two flagship stores - one in Central and another in Tsim Sha Tsui. Fashion's sweetheart Jason Wu's appointment as creative director for the brand's womenswear label has been the talk of the town. The store openings and after-party saw Wu's presence in Hong Kong for the first time since he has taken up the post.

Guests witnessed a pleasant surprise - a Hugo Boss-themed Star Ferry on Victoria Harbour. Actress Margot Robbie, of The Wolf of Wall Street fame, flew in especially for the occasion. Singer and DJ Solange Knowles spinned for the party into the early hours. The guest list also included Cathy Lee, Chow Yun-fat and Pansy Ho.

OVERHEARD It’s quite a win-win situation for Jason Wu and Hugo Boss. I can’t wait to see the chemistry between the eccentric New Yorker and the traditional German bran

CHIC CHAT with Jason Wu

Why do you think Hugo Boss chose you to head its womenswear division?
The brand’s menswear is well-known, and they wanted me to take the brand’s values of discipline and rigour, and reinterpret them into a softer, more feminine collection for women. They were very open during the design process.

You’ve come very far in a very short time. What would you say is the secret to your success?
Hard work. I’ve been working since high school. When my friends would talk about going to places like Paris or Hawaii for vacation, I’d go to Shenzhen to oversee the manufacturing of the dolls at the toy company I was working for.

If you couldn’t be a designer, what would you want to be?
A chef. I love Chinese food, especially Peking duck.
