Donald Trump suggests meeting Kim Jong-un at Peace House by North and South Korean border

US President Donald Trump on Monday suggested his planned meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un take place at the Peace House on the border between North and South Korea, the same site as Kim’s historic meeting last week with the South Korean president.

“Numerous countries are being considered for the MEETING, but would Peace House/Freedom House, on the Border of North & South Korea, be a more Representative, Important and Lasting site than a third party country? Just asking!” Trump said on Twitter.

Trump is expected to meet Kim in weeks, and said in an interview on Thursday that he was considering five locations for his summit with the North Korean leader, although he has said several times that the talks may not happen.

Last week the leaders of North and South Korea met and pledged to end hostilities and work towards the “complete denuclearisation” of the Korean peninsula, seemingly increasing the likelihood of the Trump-Kim summit.

According to a South Korean presidential office source on Monday, Kim asked Moon whether he can call him “any time” through a recently set-up hotline, following the talks.

“If I call you any time, will you take the call?” Kim was quoted as asking Moon, referring to the direct line that opened on April 20.

But Moon replied: “That’s not the case. It should be used after arrangements are made at the working-level in advance,” according to the source.

The two also talked about sport exchanges. Kim, known to be a basketball fan, was quoted as saying: “Let’s start with basketball rather than soccer.”

Previous exchanges between the two countries involved football.

Speculation is rising about what Kim and Moon spoke about privately for some 30 minutes while strolling outdoors.

The source said Kim was the one who was mainly asking questions. “There were no talks about the abolition of nuclear weapons,” the source said.
