David Li's cousin jailed for five years for HK$10m scam
A cousin of Bank of East Asia chairman David Li Kwok-po was jailed for five years and two months yesterday for scheming to get a former girlfriend and her mother to pump millions of dollars into a bogus investment firm.
Keefe Chong Ka-hai, 42, and accomplice Benson Ho Kar-lun, 43, were earlier found guilty in the District Court of two counts of fraud. Chong was also convicted of two counts of evading liability by deception. Paul Wan Kwong-chuen, 44, who claimed to be Ho's assistant, was found guilty of money laundering.
Ho was jailed for five years and Wan for 31/2 years.
Chong was earlier found to have schemed with Ho to get his former girlfriend, Lee Yuet-wah, 47, and her mother to put money in a bogus investment firm purportedly run by Ho.
The court earlier heard that mother and daughter had provided HK$10 million.
