Ferry captains get bail extended

The two captains of the vessels that collided off Lamma Island on the National Day holiday, killing 39 people, yesterday had their bail extended until the end of the month. The bail was extended after the captains of the Lamma IV and Sea Smooth reported back to marine police yesterday, after giving statements earlier. Five other crew members who were arrested are due to report back next Wednesday.

Orthodontic fees to rise at teaching hospital

Charges for orthodontic treatment at the city's only dental teaching hospital will rise by 15 to 20 per cent from next month. A spokesman for Prince Philip Dental Hospital in Sai Ying Pun said the present fee only covered 23 to 31 per cent of the cost of treatment, and fees would be gradually increased until they covered costs.

Police arrest man for ketamine possession

A 20-year-old man who became unwell at his Tuen Mun home after taking ketamine was arrested for drug possession after his 50-year-old mother called police. He was treated at Tuen Mun Hospital.

There were no winners of last night's draw. The numbers were 9, 17, 27, 35, 39 and 44, and the extra number 40. Three and a half tickets won the HK$845,090 second prize. Third prize paid HK$71,380.
