Actor counter claims over restaurant row
TV actor Oscar Leung Lit-wai has asked a court to strike out a lawsuit filed by restaurant boss Kenny Wee Ho in which Wee alleged that Leung had made defamatory remarks. Leung has also asked the High Court to award unspecified damages "for abuse of civil process". Wee, husband of 2006 Miss Hong Kong contestant Suki Chui Suk-man, had accused Leung of making offending statements around December 6. Leung's filing says Wee's claim is "without merit" and the statements were not defamatory.
Cyclist Alliance chief does not have to pay
High-profile cyclist Martin Turner won an appeal yesterday against a court order asking him to pay the legal costs of a previous case. Turner, chairman of the Cycling Alliance, was acquitted in July last year of a charge of careless driving and ordered to pay HK$30,000, but the bill is now to be paid by the prosecution.
Police seek man over slashing of woman
Police are looking for a 26-year-old man after his former girlfriend was slashed in the neck at her home in Fa Yuen Street, Mong Kok, yesterday. The 26-year-old woman is in a serious condition.
Man faces court over child abduction
A 36-year-old man has been charged with child abduction. He allegedly took a 23-month-old girl from Queen Elizabeth Hospital three weeks ago and then dumped her in Jordan. He will appear in Kowloon City court today.
Black magic police officer gets bail
A police officer who believes in black magic and was arrested on Monday on suspicion of smuggling human fetuses from Thailand is on bail and will report back next month.
