SCMP editor condemns attack on staff photographer
South China Morning Post Editor-in-Chief Wang Xiangwei on Thursday condemned an attack on staff photographer May Tse by suspected parallel traders while on assignment in Sheng Shui.
Tse was on assignment in Sheung Shui, taking pictures of parallel traders crossing the border, as she was assaulted by two men who police suspect to be Hong Kong permanent residents.
The two were arrested but have yet to be charged.
Tse was taken to hospital for an examination but was found not to be seriously injured.
"The South China Morning Post condemns violence of any kind against journalists who are carrying out their legitimate and rightful duties," Wang said on Thursday.
Journalists play an important role in Hong Kong, a free society ruled by law, Wang said. Such violence has no place in this city and should not be tolerated.
