Two foreign domestic helpers were still being detained by police on Thursday in connection with the death of a man in their care.

One of the suspects, a 40-year-old, was taken back to the dead man's apartment in Tai Hang Road, Happy Valley, on Thursday morning by investigators.

Covered by a black hood and hand-cuffed, the woman and police stayed in the apartment for about one hour.

She was arrested, along with a 70-year-old woman, in connection with the death of Fong Keng-chuen, 52.

Fong, who suffered Down’s syndrome and had a mental age of three, was found lying unconscious in the bathroom of the apartment about 8.45am on Sunday. He was later declared dead in hospital.

Police chief inspector Addy Li Chi-kin said on Thursday their probe was now focused on whether Fong was murdered.

Li said an autopsy found a strangulation mark, likely to have been caused by a rope, on Fong’s neck.

“It found no other injury beside this one on the deceased,” Li said.

The two domestic helpers were in the apartment with Fong when he was found unconscious.

The case comes after two gruesome murders and a murder-suicide in the city in three days last weekend.
